Black River Gorges National Park is situated in the south-eastern of Mauritius,officially announced as a protected reserve on June 15, 1994. It covers an area of over 67km2 ,providing over 50km of trails and is one of the largest protected forest in Mauritius.
The park has four entry points including the Black River entrance and the Case Noyale entrance situated on the west coast, La Marie entrance in Plain Wilhems, and Chamouny entrance located in the South. The main entrance is Black River; from the main road, going towards Le Morne, at the turnoff to the River- View shopping centre, follow the path, which leads you directly to the entrance. The parking area is wide enough, and even on days where it is crowded,sufficient parking space will be available.
Things To Do In Black River Gorges National Park.
- At the Beer and Spice bar on Port Louis's waterfront, the drinks list features tropical cocktails, red and white wines, and fresh juice. If hungry, you can choose from a selection of pizzas, pasta, and grilled meats and fish. Also, catch a game at the bar, or enjoy the live band present during happy hour.
- Make a reservation at Le Courtyard Restaurant in Port Louis. On the menu you’ll find salmon and scallop carpaccio, fish grilled with tandoori spices, and Foie gras (a luxury food product made of the liver of a duck or goose that has been specially fattened) with crème de cassis reduction and avocado salsa. The wine list features red, white, and rosé varieties of wine and champagne. There are also cocktails, whiskeys, and digestives. For dessert don’t pass on the chocolate lava cake with homemade honey-ginger ice cream.
- There is the Crown Lodge, which is a high-end facility that overlooks the Champ de Mars which is a horseracing track.It hosts more than 20,000 spectators each week. On arrival at the Crown Lodge, buy an all-inclusive package which covers an open bar and snacks for the afternoon. You will have an uninterrupted view of the finish line as well as a chance to meet the trainers or horse owners.
